You can get a lot closer than you think. Push the shutter button half way so the camera can focus. If the picture looks good click it! This works for catching bumble bees too,in pictures that is, half pres the button wait for bumble to lift off the flower and click!
Flash can be used outside in the bright sunlight, who'd a thunk? Not me. the picture above was taken without flash, the picture below was taken with Flash. The flash softens the shadows...how cool is that!
