Coffee Ladies at Home the sequel, and flowers.

The view from my friend Ann's back yard...coffee ladies met here today.

The view of my plate at Ann's table....

The view out my slider when I got home...cute little miniature iris blooming!

Coffee Ladies at home.

some of you may know I have a group of friends that get together for coffee pretty much every Friday morning.

 Oops, wrong picture!

Here are some of us.

Most of these ladies have been together since a mommy and me class , I am a newcomer. We usually meet at coffee shops or  restaurants around town. Occasionally some one will host at their home, and then it is a potluck kind of affair.

I usually bring a sensible dish to the at home coffees. The ladies like to bring fruit , that's sensible, and..sweet stuff... Last time I decided I don't like being stodgy and always bringing sensible stuff ( sensible stuff has helped me drop 30 pounds however) so  I brought a surgery thing. The ladies were dismayed. "I  always count on you bringing a protein!!!" (distressed tone)

So in the oven right now is this Ham and Cheese Strata....it is yummy! I got to thinking some of you may be making ham for Easter. So just in case you have left overs, here is the recipe.

I have to go find my sensible shoes and get ready to go as the strata finishes baking.

Mr. Tanzellie's lessons of life .

When we were at Oregon State University, my brother and I took a golf class from Mr. Tanzellie. We took the class a few years part. Craig took it about two years before me.  Mr. Tanzellie advises all his students in all his classes to enjoy this time in their lives. When you get out of school   it is like this...go to work , go home, go to work , go home. He said this while walking back and fourth in front of the class room like a duck in a shooting gallery. To this day, when I e mail my brother and ask what he is up to, he may reply , well you know , doing that Tanzellie thing.

I remember a phrase Mr. Tanzellie used to get the idea of back swing and follow through when we were out in the driving cages. He walked back and fourth behind us saying over and over, back to the target, knees to the target.

I've been thinking how life is like the game of golf. You have a target you are working toward. Some times you get off track, hook or slice, sometimes you land in the rough, just keep swinging, keep moving forward to the target.

Get these two raised...back too the target.

Knees to the Target.

Get these two through High School... Back to the target

well, one knee to the target.

I am having trouble with the follow through on this one.
It isn't Kathy , she is doing great! It's me, knees to the target on this means , new target...and I don't know what the heck it is yet.

So when I feel the panic growing, I think, calm down.
Play it where it lies.
Back to the target, knees to the target.

Thanks Mr. Tanzellie.

The Intermittent Gardener.

Do you all remember our sorry little garden spot first pictured 14 days ago?
 Today Mike added irrigation.

He is determined to save last years peppers...

We are trying to conserve water, even thought the drought has officially ended. In the past we have watered with a sprinklers. Water goes everywhere ...the weeds love it...( keep in mind I am not a constant gardener, I mentioned last year to a friend we have a weed patch with some vegetables in it)

Our garden spot is on a  hill. The plan is to use gravity to water the rows. My neighbor, who is the best gardener I have seen since my Grandfather, does this technique but with a hose and a diffuser thing on the end. He moves the hose around his garden...gravity takes the water down the furrows her has made. I tried that last year, and failed.

I think this idea will work for things that need LOTS of water like zucchini.

Mike surveying his work, looking for leaks.

Look, my onions I planted Tuesday are up already!!!!!!

I plan to write a note on a post it and put it over the coffee pot...it will say

WATER GARDEN
WEED GARDEN

My neighbor gave me a great hint. He said leave a hoe up by the garden so when I come up to turn on the water I can just get the weeds....I can do that!

That which doesn't kill you, gives you hives.

I had a "sever" allergic reaction to something earlier this week. Strange for me as I am not allergic to anything. I still don't know what triggered it, the medical experts said in cases of hives it is really hard to know. Gee, thanks.

Of course all of Southern California is blooming right now.

The doc's don't think it is that...they think it is something I ate , but in cases of hives it is really hard to know, just try to avoid the trigger.
What?

Thank goodness for pharmaceuticals,

and tea and lemon cake.
