Blowing down the rabbit house...

Here at Moonstone Minis Rabbitry, our "rabbit barn" is a covered patio on the north side of the house, with a  7 foot high brick wall along one side and gates at either end. In southern California, our main worry is heat and sun in regard to raising rabbits, so this kind of "barn" works out well. For added protection from the sun we made an awning of shade cloth. Last night mother nature rearranged it for us.

We had the shade cloth anchored to the patio cover with eye bolts, the wind was so strong last night it just snapped this one off.

We zigzagged the line through the eye bolts, so when one was gone, it all came down like a house of cards. You can see we are pretty high tech around here. The flower pot is holding plastic on Harley Girls hutch to keep the rain out.

Here is Harley girl, our wise woman of the rabbitry.  She wants me to bring her a treat. She knows who the soft touch is around here.

This is Mister Spunky, Tangelo, again, he knows who the soft touch is...if I look cute she will come over here.

Everyone is fine...and yes, they got treats!

Don't want to be Busted by Sgt. Friday on Friday.

So... a friend invited me to play bunco this evening. I have been hearing about this game for years, don't know how to play. My friend says it is easy, Lemon Drop Martinis will be served...ok then. this game better be easy..*hick* scuesme I said 5, 2's not fine tune...

All I can think about when I hear the name is ..."...this is the city, Los Angeles California, Bill and I were working the Bunco unit out of the Hollywood Hills division..."

I swear officer, it's just lemon aide and that's the facts. What? Never mind how the lemon was aided!

Should be an interesting evening...

The planets are aligned.

A king tide, or spring tide, occur when the gravitational pull is at it's greatest, when  the sun, moon and Earth are aligned. This happens twice a year. Yesterday was one of those times. So , please enjoy king tide at Surfers Point Ventura, Ca

The sun will come out tomorrow...so the song goes

Yesterday, Wednesday the 16, we had rain here in sunny southern Cal...creek was up.

This is a sycamore tree. They have the most interesting bark, especially when it is wet.

Today....the sun did come out and dried up all the rain.

Trip to the Feed Store! I don't mean Pet Store, I mean for Real, Feed Store.

I love going to the feed store. I feel at home there. I feel a little uncomfortable in the higher end department stores. I fear a sales lady will pop out from behind a rack of $150.00 jeans and yell "Pretender!" I have an answer for her. "Babe, your store here, a walkway runs through it, just passing through.(see earlier post titled Shopping by the seat of my pants, if further explanation of this phobia is needed.)

Anyway, here is the feed store, not the pet store. A for real feed store.

The Gee Gaw's and Baubles department.

Bird Nerd Rides Again!

The best guide book I have ever owned. The pages are falling out. I have purchased others over the years but always come back to this one.

Dig out your birding field-guide books and dust off those binoculars, Cornell Universities  Great Back Yard Bird Count, will begin Friday,  February 18 2011. I participated in the count last year for the first time in many years and I had  a great time! Cornell University will provide a regional bird list for you so you can have a heads up on the kinds of birds in your area in February. This really helped me last year.I grew up in Oregon and transplanted to California so I knew some birds, but was pleasantly surprised to learn and spot species I didn't know were here. Bird Nerd that's me! Below is a link to the Great Back Yard Bird Count site.

Mr and Mrs Mourning Dove. They come and feed on the seeds the guys in the next picture drop.

A House Sparrow at Starbucks last Friday. I love the colors in his wings.

Rain, Nature's Bedazzler.

We don't get much rain here in Southern California, when it does rain, it is kind of a big deal. The mass migrations in and out of L. A slows as folks have forgotten how to drive in rain, and there are numerous fender benders.

The kids love rain. For them, living here in this dry climate, it is as exciting as snow is to any school kid living  in colder climates. My girls would rush outside and stand with their arms out stretched palms up and feel the rain falling on their upturned face, then leap from puddle to puddle to puddle.

Rain is a double edged sword here in Southern California. We need it. We dread it. Not just for the reasons seen on the national news. Houses sliding down hills, cars swept away etc. Rain causes things to grow on the hill. Things that will dry out. Things that will become fuel for the wildfires that sweep across our portion the state.

For now, I will just focus on rains good points. It is nature's bedazzler. Here are some binged up plants, so Southern California!
